Bridging Healthcare and Data: Kassandra Poole’s Journey
When Kassandra Poole first visited UNC Charlotte, she knew she had found the right place. Coming from Raeford, North Carolina, she was drawn to the university’s diverse and welcoming community—an environment she felt would help her grow both personally and professionally.
Now pursuing a graduate degree in health informatics & data analytics, Kassandra graduated in December 2025, earning her master’s just one year after completing her bachelor’s degree. Her interest in data science began during her undergraduate studies in computer science, but it was discovering the connection between data, technology, and healthcare that truly shaped her career goals. She saw data science as the bridge between computer systems and meaningful impact in healthcare.
She describes her UNC Charlotte experience in three words: engaging, versatile, and proactive. Kassandra values how each of her professors contributed to her journey, with Richard Sheinis standing out for helping her connect classroom concepts to real-world career paths and introducing her to new areas within the field.
Alongside her studies, Kassandra works full-time at MSC Industrial Supply Company, where she appreciates the opportunity to grow in both her career and education. Through her academic and professional experiences, she also discovered a passion for project management and team coordination, gaining confidence in her leadership and organizational skills.
As a first-generation college student, navigating higher education came with challenges, from applications to financial aid to balancing work and school. Still, earning two degrees just a few years after high school remains one of her proudest accomplishments.
After graduation, Kassandra hopes to continue gaining experience, possibly move out of state for new opportunities, and one day pursue another graduate degree or an MBA. Most importantly, she looks forward to giving back by mentoring students who were once in her position. Her advice to incoming students is simple: explore every opportunity—each one can lead to growth, connection, and new possibilities.
