Shaping His Own Future: Jake Fabrizio’s Journey

Jake Fabrizio is a recent graduate of the School of Data Science and is continuing his education by pursuing a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity, with graduation in December 2026.

Experience at UNC Charlotte

Many students seek a university that provides both a sense of belonging and the resources necessary for career development. For Charlotte native Jake Fabrizio, this alignment was found locally.

Jake’s fascination with information began in high school and influenced his decision to pursue data science in college.

“I always thought data was cool. I saw when I applied that Data Science was an option and thought, why not?“

This decision initiated a successful academic trajectory. After earning his undergraduate degree from the School of Data Science, Jake continues his studies at UNC Charlotte, currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Cybersecurity with an anticipated graduation in December 2026.

As a CCI Honors student, Jake demonstrated a strong commitment to his academic pursuits and utilized campus connections to make a tangible impact. He is currently participating in the University Internship Program (UIP) within the Leadership and Community Engagement (LCE) office at Charlotte.

“This role allows me to actively collaborate with local non-profits, a fulfilling experience that aligns with my passion for civic engagement. I value the opportunity to give back to the Charlotte community.”

Mentorship has played a significant role in Jake’s development at UNC Charlotte. He specifically credits Dr. Mirsad Hadzikadic for encouraging him to broaden his perspective, particularly during the intensive capstone course.

“He always challenged me to think outside the box. In addition, he pushed me to develop and learn so much throughout the capstone course.”

Jake developed the ability to transition from a passive learner to a leader, effectively guiding group discussions and managing multiple, competing responsibilities.

Final thoughts 

Jake Fabrizio summarizes his experience as a 49er with three words: fulfilling, learning, and adaptation. As he continues his education, he draws upon real-world experiences, including leading group discussions, assimilating information, and balancing multiple responsibilities. Fabrizio acknowledges with pride that.
