Harika Botla earned her Master’s degree in Health Informatics and Analytics in May 2026 and currently serves as an intern Health Data Analyst at Camino Health Center.

EXPERIENCE AT UNC CHARLOTTE

Harika was attracted to Health Informatics and Analytics for its ability to transform complex healthcare data into actionable insights that enhance patient outcomes. The program at UNC Charlotte appealed to her for several compelling reasons.

“I chose UNC Charlotte for its strong focus on applied learning and its emphasis on bridging healthcare and data analytics. The Health Informatics and Analytics program stood out to me because of its practical curriculum, industry-relevant tools, and opportunities to gain real-world experience through internships and research.”

Beyond her interest in the program, Harika emphasizes her personal motivations for pursuing data science within Health Informatics and Analytics.

“I was drawn to data science because of its ability to transform complex healthcare data into meaningful insights that improve patient outcomes. Through my previous work with medical data, I realized how powerful it can be in driving informed decisions, which inspired me to pursue a career in this field. UNC Charlotte’s School of Data Science further strengthened my interest with its outstanding curriculum and highly qualified, supportive faculty.”

Harika emphasizes the significant influence of a professor who made her experience at UNC Charlotte memorable and contributed to her development as a student and future health data analyst.

Dr. George Shaw is my favorite professor, as I had the privilege of working under his guidance as a research assistant and completing two courses with him. His lectures are highly engaging and inspiring, and his mentorship has played a key role in shaping my academic and professional growth. Through his guidance, I developed strong research and analytical skills and learned to approach problems with a data-driven mindset.”

Harika’s transition to a new country and her academic growth at Charlotte have been transformative, collaborative, and rewarding. She has gained valuable lessons from her experiences that will inform her future career.

“I have realized that I am highly adaptable and capable of managing diverse responsibilities. During my master’s program, I had the opportunity to take on a research assistantship, a teaching assistantship, and an off-campus internship at different points. Each experience strengthened my problem-solving skills, time management, and overall confidence in handling real-world challenges.”
