Using Data to Solve Real-World Problems: Aryaman Kachroo
Aryaman Kachroo is a proud 2026 49er graduate who earned his degree in Computer Science and Data Science, with a minor in Mathematics. Aryaman described his journey at Charlotte as challenging, transformative, and rewarding.
Experience at UNC Charlotte
Aryaman’s journey at UNC Charlotte was marked by various opportunities both in and out of the classroom. Having a strong interest in learning more about the growth and expansion of AI, computer science, and data science, Aryaman’s decision to study at UNC Charlotte felt like an easy one.
“I chose UNC Charlotte because of its strong and growing programs in Computer Science and Data Science, along with the opportunities to get involved in research and hands-on projects early on. The university’s focus on applied learning and industry connections made it a place where I knew I could both learn and build real-world skills.”
Aryaman expressed that what he learned in the classroom opened his eyes to new horizons in the data science industry he was previously unfamiliar with, and that the professors truly made an impact on his growth as a student and as a future contributor in the field.
“I was first drawn to Data Science because I liked the idea of using data to understand patterns, make decisions, and solve real-world problems. But, I think the moment it became clearer to me was when I took my Data Mining class. That class helped me see how data science goes beyond just writing code or analyzing numbers. It showed me how raw data can be transformed into insights, predictions, and meaningful conclusions. That experience helped confirm that Data Science was not just something I was interested in, but something I wanted to continue studying and building my career around.”
“One of my favorite professors has been Professor Marco Scipioni. His teaching style makes complex concepts easier to understand, and he genuinely encourages students to think critically and explore beyond just coursework.”
Outside the classroom, Aryaman charted his own path and personal growth through thorough reflection on how his time at UNC Charlotte helped him discover the full experience of being a Niner.
“Before coming to UNC Charlotte, I did not fully realize how much I enjoy building things from scratch and taking ownership of projects. Through classes, research, internships, and hackathons, I learned that I thrive when I am challenged to learn quickly and solve problems creatively. I also learned that I am more adaptable than I thought. Moving to a new country, adjusting to a different academic system, and finding opportunities as an international student pushed me to grow both personally and professionally.”
Through personal and professional growth, Aryaman is currently working as a Software Engineering Intern at Viven AI, a startup focused on digital twin technology and knowledge management. In this role, Aryaman has worked on full-stack features and AI-related product developments. Aryaman felt prepared for this role because of the personal interest he had honed as a full-time student.
“Outside of coursework, I have been involved in research, internships, hackathons, and student organizations that have helped shape my interests in AI, software engineering, and data science. I conducted summer research on deepfake detection and watermarking, worked with UNC Charlotte Men’s Soccer as a Sports Data Analytics Intern, and have built several AI-focused projects through hackathons and personal initiatives. One thing that has defined my experience is trying to make the most out of every opportunity, whether that means working on research, building projects, mentoring others, or learning from people around me.”
Final Advice
Given everything UNC Charlotte gave Aryaman, he wanted to share a piece of advice for incoming students.
“My advice to an incoming student would be to get involved early and not wait until everything feels perfect. Join student organizations, talk to professors, apply for internships, attend events, and build projects, even if you feel like a beginner. UNC Charlotte offers many opportunities, but you have to be willing to put yourself out there. Some of the best experiences I have come from simply asking questions, reaching out to people, and saying yes to opportunities.”
