Biography: Dr. Omid Shoghli is an Associate Professor at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, Director of the Smart Infrastructure and Asset Management (SIAM) Lab, and an Affiliated Faculty Member of the UNC Charlotte School of Data Science. His research integrates advanced machine learning, virtual and augmented reality, and human-computer interaction to tackle critical challenges in the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of civil and transportation infrastructure, with a focus on enhancing safety, intelligence, efficiency, and sustainability. His work has been supported by major funding agencies, including the National Science Foundation (NSF), the National Cooperative Highway Research Program (NCHRP), the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT), the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT), and Leidos. Dr. Shoghli also plays an active role in national transportation research initiatives as the Research Coordinator and Co-Founder of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) Standing Committee on Maintenance Management Systems (AKT70) and serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Transportation Research Record (TRR), contributing to the advancement of transportation research. Beyond academia, he has over four years of industry experience in infrastructure management as a consultant, bridging the gap between research and real-world applications.
