Biography:

Dr. Marco Scipioni joined the School of Data Science in 2022 as an associate professor and also serves as the Undergraduate Program Director for Admissions and Engagement. His teaching specializes in Python programming and machine learning and his research focuses on the use of machine learning for the social good. With six years of teaching experience at Queens University, Dr. Scipioni brings pedagogical expertise to his current role.

As Undergraduate Program Director for Admissions and Engagement, Dr. Scipioni works closely with the SDS Director of Student Services (DSS) and academic advisors interacting with current and prospective students to create a relevant curriculum and a creative learning environment. Furthermore, Marco is one of the co-founders of Lumiton, a local startup that invented and patented a light-smart fabric technology that converts light, especially sunlight, into red and near-infrared light to energize the wellness in the body and create cool and UV-protective clothing. Dr. Scipioni earned his Ph.D. in Optical Science and Engineering from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
