Biography:
Dr. Valery Grdzelishvili is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at UNC Charlotte. His research focus is on molecular biology and nonsegmented negative-strand (NNS) RNA viruses, belonging to the Mononegavirales order. His primary research interest lies in exploring the potential applications of NNS RNA viruses, particularly vesicular stomatitis virus (VSV), as effective anticancer agents. Specifically, he investigates the susceptibility and resistance of pancreatic cancer cells to VSV and other oncolytic viruses, aiming to identify cellular and viral determinants associated with their therapeutic potential. Additionally, his work involves gaining a mechanistic understanding of the viral replication cycle of NNS RNA viruses, crucial for developing strategies to combat viral diseases caused by pathogens like rabies, measles, Ebola, and others.
