Introducing The Analytics Frontiers And WiDS Charlotte Fall 2020 Webinar Series

Categories: General News

In light of the ongoing developments of COVID-19 across North Carolina and the country, and after careful consideration with the University of North Carolina at Charlotte and industry partners, the School of Data Science has decided to delay the annual Analytics Frontiers and WiDS Charlotte conferences, previously rescheduled for September 9th, 2020, until March 2021.

In the spirit of connection and virtual collaboration, the School of Data Science is thrilled to announce a free webinar series highlighting pressing inequality and ethical issues in data science. The series will begin on September 18th, 2020, and will continue throughout the fall.

Each webinar will consist of a presentation featuring a keynote speaker from the original 2020 conference schedule. Tentative topics and dates include:

  • Racial Injustice and Inequality In Applications of Data Science featuring Analytics Frontiers keynote speaker, Dr. Ruha Benjamin, Associate Professor at Princeton University, and founder of the IDA B. WELLS Just Data Lab – Friday, September 18th, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
  • Data Science in the Fight for Civil Liberties Featuring WiDS keynote Lucia Tian, Chief Analytics Officer at the ACLU – Friday, October 16th, 12:00 – 1:00 p.m.
