Karen Joyce

As Chief AI Officer at Surescripts, Karen leads the company’s enterprise-wide AI strategy and execution, bringing together technical expertise, strategic foresight, and collaborative leadership. In this role, she advises on emerging AI trends, risks, and opportunities while building and guiding a high-performing AI organization. Her focus includes advancing innovation in predictive analytics and intelligent automation, and ensuring that Surescripts’ AI systems are scalable, explainable, and aligned with industry-leading healthcare data standards.

Before joining Surescripts, Karen enjoyed a decade-long tenure at Novant Health, most recently as Vice President of Artificial Intelligence and Innovation. There she led a multidisciplinary team spanning AI/ML engineering, software development, product and design, accelerating the deployment of AI solutions across both clinical and operational settings. 

Earlier in her career, Karen worked in the healthtech startup ecosystem, where she honed her expertise at the intersection of healthcare and technology. She holds a BSBE and a PhD in Biomedical Engineering.
