Biography:

Dr. Srinivas Pulugurtha is a Professor and Research Director in the Department of Civil & Environmental Engineering at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He is an expert in the field of transportation engineering. Dr. Pulugurtha is the Director of the Infrastructure, Design, Environment, and Sustainability (IDEAS) Center, where he leads cutting-edge research projects aimed at enhancing transportation systems’ efficiency, safety, and sustainability. Dr. Pulugurtha’s wide-ranging expertise encompasses areas such as traffic safety, intelligent transportation systems, connected and automated vehicles, transportation system planning, and data analytics, among others.

In his career, Dr. Pulugurtha has secured over $10 million in external funding and successfully completed 81 sponsored projects. His research findings have been disseminated through over 300 publications, including 98 journal papers, and presented at numerous international, national, regional, and local conferences. His contributions have been recognized with three prestigious “best research paper” awards. He has also introduced new courses at UNC Charlotte, earning accolades such as the Graduate Teaching Award for his exemplary commitment to teaching and mentorship.

Dr. Pulugurtha’s earned a Master’s in Technology in Civil Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur, India. He earned his Ph.D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
